ATHENS, Ohio (March 18, 2005) -- Robert Judd, Ohio University professor of electrical engineering and computer science, has been named chair of the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering effective spring quarter.
"I am honored to accept this position," Judd said. "I thank Dean Dennis Irwin for the confidence he has shown in me by making this appointment. I have enjoyed collaborating with the IMSE faculty on various research projects over the past 12 years and I'm looking forward to leading this energetic group as we work to accomplish the department's educational and research missions."
Judd was hired by Ohio University as the Cooper Industries Professor in 1992. He has received more than 30 research grants totaling approximately $3,500,000. His funding has come from both industrial and governmental sources. He will replace Charles Parks, who announced he is stepping down as department chair at the end of the winter quarter. Parks had served as chair since 1992.
"Dr. Judd has been one of the college's most productive faculty members for over a decade," said Russ College of Engineering Dean Dennis Irwin. "He and I look forward to the results of applying his talents to this new challenge"
In addition to 24 years of experience as an educator, researcher and consultant in system simulation, discrete event controls and systems integration, Judd is the author or co-author of over a hundred published papers in journals and conferences. He also wrote a book chapter devoted to integrating manufacturing design tools and edited a special issue of the International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing dedicated to intelligent manufacturing systems.
Judd, who received his Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Oakland University, holds a patent on simulation software integration and has been one of the lead developers in several software packages, two of these packages are being commercialized as part of the Engineous Software Inc. FIPER system.
