Second Affirming Diversity panel scheduled for March 9

ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 25, 2005) -- The second in a series of four Affirming Diversity panels featuring Ohio University faculty and staff will take place in March.

The second panel, "Women in Academia: Women in Leadership at Ohio University," will take place on Wednesday, March 9, from noon to 1 p.m. in Baker University Center's 1804 Lounge. It will be moderated by interim Provost Kathy A. Krendl.

The panel will feature a welcome by Lena Wright Myers, professor of sociology and anthropology. Featured panelists will include Susan R. Burgess, associate professor, political science, and director of women's studies; Margaret F. Cohn, dean emerita of the Honors Tutorial College; Nicolette Dioguardi, associate director, Legal Affairs, and lecturer in law, management systems; Ann Paulins, associate professor and director, Human and Consumer Sciences; Patti L. Pennell, associate director of retail operations, Dining Services; and Jean R. Witkowski, assistant dean of administration and budget, College of Arts and Sciences.

The purpose of the lunch hour panels is to provide an opportunity for people to gather and hear firsthand what the experiences of diverse groups on campus bring to Ohio University and the community. They will feature personal narratives as well as suggestions for making the university a more inclusive and diverse place.

On Feb. 14, the university held the first panel titled, "Profiles in Courage: The African American Experience at Ohio University."

The Affirming Diversity panels are sponsored by the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the Office of the University Ombuds, the Office for Institutional Equity and the MLK Committee.

The remaining two Affirming Diversity panels are:

    Out in Academia: The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Experience at Ohio University
    Moderator: Mickey Hart, coordinator, LGBT Programs.

  • May 4
    International Voices of Ohio University
    Moderator: Matthew Adeyanju, professor and director, Health Sciences
