ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 6, 2005) -- Thomas Frank, author of the best-selling book "What's the Matter With Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America," will speak at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the 1804 Lounge of Baker University Center. The topic of his discussion is "Understanding the Red States."
Frank writes regularly for Harper's magazine and is editor of the Baffler, a journal of cultural and political criticism. He holds a doctorate in American history from the University of Chicago and is the author of two previous books, "The Conquest of Cool" and "One Market Under God."
"Thomas Frank offers insights on a contemporary issue of interest to a wide range of individuals, and we look forward to this opportunity for the university and local community to hear his views and become more engaged in this topical discussion," said Contemporary History Institute Director Michael Grow.
The event is sponsored by Ohio University's Contemporary History Institute. The institute provides students with historical prospective on contemporary world issues.
