ATHENS, Ohio (Nov. 8, 2004) -- Governor Bob Taft has announced the appointment of Dean of the College of Fine Arts Raymond Tymas-Jones to the Ohio Arts Council Board. His term will end July 1, 2009.
"It's an honor to represent Southeastern Ohio," said Tymas-Jones. "The arts are an important aspect of our culture and I look forward to working with the board to enhance the visibility and impact of existing arts programs not only in the region, but also as a vital part of Ohio University."
Tymas-Jones was a member of the Board of Directors for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans until 2001. He is chairperson of the Executive Development and Leadership Ad Hoc Committee for the organization. He received a bachelor of music from Howard University and a master of music and doctorate in Philosophy from Washington University at St. Louis.
The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
