This week, students have the unique opportunity to give back to the professors who have made an impact in their college experience. Founded in 1970, the University Professor Award honors five extraordinary faculty members each year while enriching the undergraduate curriculum with innovative new courses, chosen by the University Professors.
University Professor nominations will be collected Oct. 25 through Oct. 29. After voting is closed, the nominations are tallied and a student selection committee will interview the top 20 nominees winter quarter. Finalists undergo an extensive screening process including observing the professors in class, then, the provost will announce the new University Professors in early spring.
A commemorative plaque outside Chubb Hall lists each of the more than 100 professors who have been honored in the past.
To be eligible for the University Professor Award, nominated professors must be full faculty members. Past award recipients will not be considered unless they received their award more than three years previous. University Professor courses may be offered fall, winter or spring quarters, and may be offered once or twice.
To nominate a professor, visit the Center for Teaching Excellence Web site for an online ballot at www.ohiou.edu/teacher/universityprofessor.htm. Students interested in participating in the selection process can contact Karin Sandell at the Center for Teaching Excellence in Scott Quad.
