ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 19, 2004) -- The Russ College of Engineering and Technology, Center for Teaching Excellence and Center for Community Service will present a service-learning workshop for faculty on Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Human Resource and Training Center, rooms 141/145. Lunch will be provided.
The workshop, "Best Practices in Service Learning," will feature Dr. William Oakes, P.E., associate professor of engineering education and co-director of the EPICS Program at Purdue University, the nation's most successful engineering service learning program. Oakes and other presenters will discuss service learning success stories, its influence on the community, and how to gain support for service learning initiatives.
A follow-up event will be held winter break 2004, when faculty members interested in implementing service learning can learn more and receive stipends to support their efforts.
