Why did you pick Ohio University?
I decided to attend OU based on a “gut feeling” I had when I visited campus, and it was the
best choice I could have made.  Something about the University just felt right.

What is the best part about living in Athens?
The best part about living in Athens is that it has so much to offer.  The University, my classes,
the atmosphere, and the community are all great.  I also like the fact that OU is a big school
but Athens still has a small town feel.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?
My favorite spot on campus is Ping, the recreation center.  I like to workout, run, and
play racquetball there, and it is always a good place to go to relieve stress.

What has been your class at OU and Why?
My favorite class I’ve taken was Economics of Poverty because not only did I learn about
poverty on a global level, but there was also a focus on the poverty here in Athens,
and I was able to go out in the community and see it as part of the course.

What advice would you give to a first year student?
My advice to incoming students is to maintain a balance between your schoolwork and
social life because both are essential to having an amazing experience and being successful
here at Ohio University.

Why did you pick Ohio University?
I had a picture in my head of what college was supposed to be like when I started looking
into different universities.  I took several tours before coming to OU, but none of them
seemed to fit this picture I had. After touring OU and talking with some of the faculty
in my department, I knew I had found it. OU is the quintessential university of my dreams.

What is the best part about living in Athens?
Athens is more than just the town where OU happens to be located. OU is a part of Athens,
just as much as Athens is a part of OU. Here I’ve become not only a member of the
OHIO community, but the Athens community as well.

Where is your favorite spot on campus?
College green is by far my favorite spot on campus. With the colorful leaves in the fall,
the snow and ice in the winter and the flowers in the spring, it is ever-changing and
you never know who or what you will run into!

What has been your favorite class at OU and why?
I absolutely loved a linguistics course here called Language in America. We explored t
he different dialects throughout America, their differences, similarities and origins.
It was so interesting to see how much the English language varies, within one country.
We may all be speaking English, but it is not necessarily the same English!

What advice would you give to a first year student?
Breathe. Remember that you are not alone. You are coming in with an entire class of people
who probably have the same questions, fears and anxieties as you. Never let your fear
hold you back from reaching your goals. OU offers so many support services that can help
you reach your full potential.

Why did you pick Ohio University?
Coming from a small town, I wanted to attend a university that felt like home while
still offering the opportunities of a big campus. The plants and animals around campus
and the brick architecture presents a comforting, unique community feeling while still
housing and holding everything a vast city university would.

What is the best part about living in Athens?
The best part of living in Athens is the rich scenery that every season offers. I enjoy
taking walks throughout the year and seeing something so beautiful that I have to stop
and take a picture which I then forward to my mother for her to see. J

Where is your favorite spot on campus?
I have many places on campus where I enjoy spending time. The bike path, College Green,
and Emeriti Park are just a few of the beautiful spots on campus!

What has been your favorite class at OU and why?
My favorite past class so far at OU is EDEC 361 lab. During the lab I got to visit the
Child Development Center at the Ridges and interact with infants twice a week,
it was a great and eye-opening experience. However, I am currently in two classes
I enjoy which may be my favorite by the end of year – CSD 380 and CFS 371.
CSD 380 involves learning the basics of American Sign Language, a fun yet challenging interest.
CFS 371 is a fun class with a great professor and many entertaining clips which she
extracts educational value from. I’m sure as I continue to take classes related to my degree
I will have more than one favorite class by the time I graduate from OU!

What advice would you give to first year students?
Getting involved on campus is one of the most important actions for a freshman.
Finding clubs, organizations, and classes that support your interests provides
many opportunities for your future and creates many friendships along the way.

Why did you pick Ohio University?
I think Ohio University picked me. I didn’t even know Ohio University existed until
a friend of mine suggested I come visit the campus with her. The second I stepped
on campus I knew this was the university for me. Also, the professors in the School of Art
are the icing on the cake. They made me feel like they truly cared about me
and are so passionate about their discipline that I couldn’t help but feel right at home.

What is the best part about living in Athens?
I love the small town vibe. I grew up in between two large cities so small town living
is a pleasant change for me. I love that I can’t walk around Athens without running into
at least one person I know!

Where is your favorite spot on campus?
I really enjoy walking along the bike path the runs along the Hocking River and the
4th floor balcony at Baker University Center is a great place to study with a killer view.

What has been your favorite class at OU and why?
My favorite class is Sociology 201: Contemporary Social Problems. It examined several
of the real problems that plague our society today in a relevant and extremely interesting way.
We had three books for the class and I was so into them that I read the books
way before the assigned due dates!

What advice would you give to first year students? Get involved early! I didn’t get involved
until late in my sophomore year and I wish I wouldn’t have waited that long because I really found
my place on campus once I did. Visit the campus involvement center, get a job
or even join a sports team! I found some of my best friends through my involvements on campus.
