Why did you pick Ohio University?

I chose Ohio University for a couple different reasons. I was actually awarded the Appalachian Scholarship for Ohio University's Eastern Campus, which required me to spend my first two years of college there. Before I received this scholarship, I toured the Athens campus and absolutely fell in love with it. So I was very excited to find out that I would definitely be spending two years here. The atmosphere this campus provides is like no other. I toured several other colleges and universities only to find myself thinking about OU. I have felt at home since day one and love the small town community feeling Athens provides.

What is the best part about living in Athens?

I believe the best part of living in Athens is the wide variety of activities available all the time. Whether you just want to relax by the bike path or go shopping, to the movies, or out to eat on Court Street, there is something for you. With OU being in the heart of Athens, the university has many activities to become involved in also.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

I have a couple favorite places on campus, but it depends on the season. On Saturdays in the fall, I will always be found at Peden Stadium watching the football games, and in the winter I will always be at the Convocation Center supporting our basketball team. Being a huge football and basketball fan, I never miss a chance to cheer on our Bobcats. Other times of the year I love to walk on the bike path and enjoy the river. As you can tell, I cannot choose a favorite spot; there are too many beautiful places and things to discover here.

What was your favorite class at OU and why?

My favorite class at OU would have to be the Human Anatomy course I am currently taking. This class is the first class I have taken that I feel I can directly apply to my career. Learning about how the body works and how injuries happen has a direct relationship with being a physical therapist. I find the class very interesting, which makes the material much easier to learn.

What advice would you give a first year student?

In order for a first year student to be successful, they must be able to ask for help. No matter how big or small their problems may be they have to know it is ok to ask for some assistance and direction. Asking for directions to a class or asking for a tutor in math can be difficult conversations for some students, but in order to be successful, those conversations must take place. Students aren’t always able to figure everything out on their own and it is ok if some things do not come naturally to everyone.
