College/Major: College of Arts and Sciences – Psychology
Why did you pick Ohio University?
Ohio University was actually not my first choice but once I took a visit in the spring of my senior year I knew I was coming here. I fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere. So there was not any real reason for me to choose OU, just a gut feeling. But, upon coming here I’ve met some of the best people and had life changing experiences. It was definitely the right choice.
What is the best part about living in Athens?
I love the small town feel of Athens and how intertwined the university is with the town. Anything you need you can probably find on Court Street whether it be food or clothes or books. Everyone’s friendly and willing to lend a helping hand. Where is your favorite spot on campus?
I have two favorite spots at Ohio University, one being the fifth floor of Baker. I love going there to do homework and just to meet up with friends. It’s great to just grab a coffee from the Front Room and head up there for a few hours.
My other favorite place is Donkey Coffee, they have the best chai in Athens and have an amazing atmosphere. People go in there to study or just hang out. They also offer a great music scene with local bands and students from the university playing at open-mic nights.
What has been your favorite class at OU and why?
My favorite class so far has been History 265, Nazi Germany. The class began with the end of World War I and proceeded through the rise of Nazi Germany and the downfall of the Reich. Professor Goda teaches with vast knowledge and unbridled enthusiasm. He is the person the history channel goes to when they want an expert source on Nazi Germany. He takes an otherwise dreary topic and adds his own blend of humor to make learning fun. I would recommend this class to any major.
What advice would you give to a first year student?
Be prepared for all weather, at all times. Girls - buy rain boots. Everyone needs an umbrella. It stinks being caught in a thunderstorm on your way to class, and the professors aren’t going to cancel for seemingly tsunami-like weather.
