What is Phi Mu Alpha?
The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development
of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual
welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement
of music in America and a loyalty to the Alma Mater.
Phi Mu Alpha is a men's social music fraternity; the
only of it's kind on the Ohio University campus. More

How do I join?
Rush for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is done Winter and Spring
Quarters at Ohio University. In the second week of the
quarter there will be a series of pre-rush events you
can attend. At the end of the pre-rush activities week
there will be a formal rush. You must attend this to
recieve a bid for Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. If you recieve
a bid to rush, you may accept the bid and continue to
the rush period. You will then be pinned, and become
a probationary member. Throughout the rest of the quarter
you will attend a weekly class to go over material of
our fraternity. You will be required to complete our
national exam before the initiation ritual can take
place. If you have met all requirements of the fraternity
you will be initiated into our fraternity through the
initiation ritual.
Do
I have to be a music major to join?
No. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is not an organization promoting
a professional career in music, therefore we do not
require you to be a music major. Any man with a love
and interest of music is eligable to join Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia.
Are
there any requirements to join?
Only that you are a male, and have a love and interest
for music. During your probationary period you will
complete a national exam required by the national fraternity.
The Alpha Kappa chapter also asks that the probationary
class prepare a recital where the brothers will perform
in any musical genre. The Alpha Kappa chapter also asks
that probationary classes organize a Mill's Music Mission,
or some other type of musical outreach for the community.
