Gerontology
Gerontology covers the social, psychological and biological aspects of aging. Sigma Kappa was the first sorority to recognize the need for this type of research (1954). Collegiate and alumnae members throughout the country volunteer their time and talent in support of numerous projects to assist and benefit the elderly.

Alzheimer's Disease Research
Sigma Kappa is one of the nation's leading contributors to Alzheimer's disease prevention, research and treatment efforts. Sigma Kappa has been contributing to this increasingly critical problem facing older adults since 1984.

Maine Sea Coast Mission
This was Sigma Kappa's first national philanthropy. It was founded in 1918, in honor of Sigma Kappa's five founders from Maine. Through the Maine Sea Cost Missionary Society, Sigma Kappa provides financial contributions for use in the Christmas Program, which gives gifts to needy families during the holiday season; the emergency relief program, which gives assistance with food, clothing, shelter and medical needs; and for scholarships to young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue an education beyond high school.

Inherit the Earth
This program ties Sigma Kappa's interest in older citizens with its interest in the environment. Through Inherit the Earth, collegians, alumnae and older citizens work together to improve local environments
