While most children were playing with Barbie dolls or G.I. Joe action figures, one talented Ohio University freshman was learning to play the guitar from members of his father's classic-rock band. From a back-up harmonica player to singing center stage, freshman Victor Rasgaitis has already self-produced 10 songs on a CD called Hear It Is and has been in contact with the National Director of Promotions for Columbia Records. Although no actual deal has been set with the record company, we can’t keep our eyes off this blooming super star with his folk-rock renditions of old school stars such as Billy Joel. His exciting songs and self-written lyrics may be the reason to get your nose out of a thick, boring textbook for just one night.

What inspires your music?

“I’m a hopeful romantic; I can’t help it. Anything that deals with a relationship or random things that happen to me help me write my songs. Being up too late helps to write. My main goal for when I write a song is that whoever is listening to it or watching it enjoys it, whether it be that they feel emotions or are just having fun and going crazy with the song.”

What do you want to do when you grow up?
“I’m enrolled in E.W. Scripps School of Journalism for advertising with a specialization in music and marketing. Basically, I’m going to promote myself like a beast.
“When I graduate, even if nothing works out with the record deal, I will at least have the back-up option to work in the music business, creating and producing music. I love every part of music. It’s a good time.”
What is your biggest dream?
“The biggest dream I’ve ever had is that one day I could play at the Cleveland Tower City Amphitheater to a sold out hometown crowd that would sing along with every song and dance crazily from front row to the back while Blue Man Group provided the percussion section to a full 18 piece Big Band that played my songs while I sang and played guitar.”
What is the best feeling in the world?

“True love. It encompasses every emotion in the world: happiness, excitement, a little frustration and sometimes sadness. But for the most part, it makes you who you are. True love doesn’t even have to be the romantic form. It can come from parents, family and friends.”

Victor’s full-length self-produced CD, Hear It Is, is available for $10 at any of his performances, Haffa’s records, Blue Eagle Guitar Shop, Borders and on iTunes. It is also online at www.cdbaby.com and on CDIGIX music download.
