| | By the time winter quarter rolls around, the very last thing on your mind is trekking in your Uggs all the way over to South Green to work out at Ping. You know you're not alone here. Let's be honest. We all could think of excuse after excuse to avoid getting our recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day, but, ultimately, every single one of us wishes we had the motivation to stay active even during those dreadful winter months. Luckily, there is an obvious solution to the oh-so-problematic “winter workout blues” crisis: working out in your room! There’s nothing fancy or complicated about it. Fortunately, you can break a sweat in the comfort of your 10 by 12 foot, confined living space. Here’s how: | Keep Things Interesting - Walk fast in place while watching TV, pumping arms and bringing legs as high as your knees.
- Do 10 reps of dorm stairs per day.
- Take the long way in and out of your dorm.
- Put the new JT album to use…have a random dance party!
- Do 15 jumping jacks when you wake up every day.
- Do sit ups every night before bed (4 reps of 25).
- Wear high heels to stretch out calf muscles (and elongate those legs of course!).
Students say: Sophomore Alanna Geoghegan uses soup cans as dumbbells for bicep curls. Sophomore Erica Amos leans on her desk chair to do squats and leg lifts. Ways to Stay Motivated - Strength in numbers! Find a workout buddy to join you.
- Always remember: The more you move around, the better you feel!
- TV workout: walk fast during your program; take water breaks during commercials.
- Put motivational quotes around your dorm room. It sounds cheesy, but it works!
- Surround yourself with a strong support system. Hang out with other motivated people.
Student say: Sophomore Trisha Winberry puts pictures of fit models and celebrities around her room to keep her on track. Think: healthy Jessica Alba, not Kate Bosworth. |
