After seeing collections ranging from Ralph Lauren to Chanel at New York’s fashion week, it’s obvious that menswear-inspired looks are a new staple this season. But there’s been a slight redesign of the style we saw in the ‘80s. “Women are not trying for the androgynous, slouchy male trouser suit, as Annie Hall wore it,” said Suzy Menkes in the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “Slim-line tailoring is key.” Concentrate on key pieces like fitted jackets, slimming skirts and dresses, and tailored pants. Another revision is the re-examination of prints. Plaid, herringbone, pinstripes, tweed and houndstooth bring sophistication and refinement to the style and make it uniquely identifiable. Complete your look with a feminine touch. “‘Girl’ it up with a great cotton shirt, a leather belt, boots, gloves and a chic little clutch handbag,” says Judy Gordon, the Today’s show style editor. By adding a few, simple pieces to your wardrobe, you can bring this runway fashion influence to your on-campus fashion.
