Since the hit television reality show Project Runway swept onto the fashion scene, a large following of fans have embraced the up-and-coming designers, including Amesville native Angela Keslar, of season three. Keslar used her close proximity to Ohio University to make an appearance at Baker Student Center, where she discussed the show, her design style, and her involvement with Passion Works, the local art house of Athens. Describing her aesthetic style as “rags to riches tomboy,” Angela described her experience on Project Runway as “beneficial to networking” and gaining “hands-on” experience. “Doors are opened to you but it’s up to you to walk through them and go after it,” she advised. POISE Fashion: Can you describe your involvement with Passion Works?
POISE: How are you able to keep up with the fast-paced fashion industry as you live in southern Ohio? AK: I travel a lot to N.Y.C. and L.A. but make sure I get down time here on the farm. POISE: Where do you find inspiration for your designs? AK: Everywhere from sunsets to the metropolitan museum of art. I pay attention for any opportunity to be inspired. Life is full of it. POISE: What advice to you have for the 20-something woman trying to find their own personal style? AK: Know who you are and what you love. This sounds simple, but it's not. POISE: Who are some of your favorite designers? AK: Alber Elbaz, John Galliano and Vionnet POISE: What sets you apart from all designers? AK: My mouth! POISE: Did you benefit from being a part of the show, Project Runway? AK: Yes- I am meeting the most interesting people in the most interesting disciplines: architecture, writing, fashion, and business. I was also invited to show during fashion week in February at the style lounge, an event sponsored by Elle magazine. That would have never happened if I hadn't done Project Runway. POISE: Who were your favorite fellow designers on Project Runway? AK: Michael, Laura, Malan, and Robert. POISE: Finally, what new trends should we be looking for in the upcoming seasons? AK: Plenty of layering, fedora hats, male tailoring geared toward women, and over-sized hand bags
