The Society of Photographic Illustrators is a student-run organization started in 2004. It is comprised of mostly Visual Communications students seeking opportunities to learn about the commercial photography field outside of the classroom. We invite professionals to speak about their own experiences out in the big wide world. Some people who have visited are Ed Leida, Tony Arrasmith, Kim D. Simmons, and George C. Anderson. We have workshops throughout the year as well as a show and a printed publication of members' work. Also available is a Model Book of over 100 willing subjects, which is accessible only to SPI members. We are dedicated to enriching the student photographer's knowledge and experience by taking theories taught in the classroom and learning how to apply them post-graduation.
