NCASC Committees

Throughout the year, NCASC members divide into committees in order to focus on specific tasks to be accomplished. Members may choose the committee they join, and members can switch committees throughout the year

Community Service Committee
Headed by: Secretary
The Community Service Committee helps members of the Ohio University and the Athens Community by planning various charitable events. These activities have proved to be very rewarding not only to those receiving aid, but to NCASC members as well. In the past, we have partnered with the Athens County Humane Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County, Walk for the Homeless, My Sister's Place, Goodworks, and March of Dimes. Our commitment to community service is always growing and suggestions for new service activities are always welcome.

Fundraising Committee
Headed by: Treasurer
The Fundraising Committee creates, plans, and executes all of the fundraising events for NCASC. It is important for this committee to generate creative ideas on how our organization can raise money and continue to provide better services and opportunities for our members. Currently, NCASC is developing fundraising plans for a networking trip to Chicago, where we plan on meeting with Ohio University Alumni for networking opportunities. Some previous examples of fundraising events hosted by NCASC include Cold Stone Creamery sales on Court Street, and grilled cheese, hot dog, and baked goods sales throughout campus. NCASC has also hosted various other events, such as OU Idol and the NCASC Date Auction in order to raise funds. Ideas for new fundraising opportunities are always welcome.

Networking Committee:
Headed by: President
Each quarter our organization strives to put together a networking trip for our members. In the past, we have gone to the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, Ashland, the Columbus Crew MLS team, and an event hosted by T-Mobile in Las Vegas. A networking trip helps members of NCASC see how communication works within an organization and how valuable their degree from Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication truly is. These trips also provide NCASC members an opportunity to network with employers for possible internships or future employment. As of now, the Networking Committee is working with alumni from the Chicago area in hopes that we can visit them during the upcoming year. The networking committee also arranges for guest speakers to come and visit our weekly meetings. Previously, Bridget Holian, OU and NCASC alumna, spoke on her work in non-profits and gave us more information on fundraising and development. Suggestions and ideas for networking trips and guest speakers are always welcome.

Public Relations Committee:
Headed by: Communication Director
This committee’s main goal is to promote NCASC and its activities and speakers by creating and distributing flyers, banners, newspaper advertisements, and any other types of promotional materials. Each quarter, NCASC also publishes a newsletter that recaps what NCASC has done during the quarter and previews what is to come, and the PR committee assists with that task as well. The PR Committee also maintains the NCASC bulletin boards in Lasher Hall. Currently, the committee is busy writing articles for the upcoming newsletter recapping the events of Spring 2009. This committee is always looking for more exciting ways to get our name around Ohio University’s campus, the Athens community, and to future employers.

Academic Advancement Committee:
Headed by: Vice President
The newest of NCASC's committees, the Academic Advancement committee works to further educational goals for our organziation. By working with professors, organizing workshops, and bringing in guest speakers, this committee helps members gain more understanding about the academic side of the field of communication studies.

Alumni Relations Committee:
Headed by: Membership Director
The Alumni Relations Committee is responsible for keeping track of all alumni from NCASC, as well as seeking out alumni who were not involved with our organization, who can provide valuable real-world information for our members. This committee also works closely with the Networking Committee in finding possible locations for networking trips and guest speakers who are willing to visit our meetings and provide us with valuable advice.
