Transportation Options

General information on transportation from the Columbus International Airport is provided by the International Student and Faculty Services.

Local Bus Service: Athens Transit (for schedule, routes, and fares). Hail the bus to get noticed if you are waiting in places other than its regular pickup/drop-off points. Do so early so the bus has enough time to give signal to other drivers behind and to prepare to stop.

Intercity Bus Service: Lakefront Lines Inc. (for schedule, routes, and fares). Another option is GoBus service to Columbus and Cincinnati.

Ohio University Airport Shuttle: Service to Columbus International Airport.

For those of you who do not have a car and need a ride to go to other cities or the Columbus airport, you can also go to this Rideboard to view or even to post messages (OU Oak ID is required).

Athens has limited availability of public transportation that serves within its city limits and to/from other places. University Courtyard apartments operate a bus service that runs daily 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday when school is in session. Non-Courtyard resident $1.00 per trip. Hail the bus to get noticed if you are waiting in places other than its regular pickup/drop-off points. Do so early so the bus has enough time to give signal to other drivers behind and to prepare to stop.

For local cab service, call Athens GO TO Cab at (740)-590-4686.

The MSA can also provide assistance to our Muslim brothers and sisters with a tight budget who are in need of a more affordable airport pickup service. Please make sure that your final destination is Columbus, Ohio. The MSA may arrange with brothers or sisters who are available to perform the trip on the day of your arrival. Although it may not always be possible, it is highly recommended to arrange the day of your arrival in the Columbus International Airport to fall on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Please note that this is NOT a for-profit service and the MSA is NOT in the business of airport pickup/drop-off service. Nevertheless, it is a much appreciated gesture to compensate the person who picks you up for some gas money. Depending on the amount of gas needed for the trip as well as the price of gas that day, prepare to pay at least $40 (or $80 roundtrip).

IMPORTANT NOTE: The amount of gas compensation for this service is agreed between you and the person. The MSA is not liable for any disputes that may arise. We are here to help you arrange for the service only. As soon as we have the volunteer(s), we will email the name of brother(s) or sister(s) and their contact information to you. Make sure to always confirm with us that you have received such information because once it is sent to you, you are responsible to be in touch with the volunteer(s). The MSA assumes no responsibility for any miscommunication between you and the volunteer(s). We will, however, remind the brother(s) or sister(s) of their responsibility.
