Climate and Clothing
In summer, the average temperature in Athens during the day is 33 degrees Celcius (91 degrees Fahrenheit), while in the evening the temperature is at least 10 degrees C (20 degrees F) cooler. In winter, it dips to around -12 degrees C or even lower. In this southeastern Ohio winter weather it is highly recommended to bring clothes made of thermal material and a winter jacket. If you come from a tropical country and are not sure if the thermal clothes you buy there will be effective here, bring a couple of those just in case.
Campus clothing is casual. For the brothers, t/shirts and pants are most commonly worn in summers. For the sisters, wear clothes you feelcomfortable to wear. There is no restriction on wearing a hijab or head cover anywhere on campus, nor that you will receive repercusion on wearing one in other public places. For those on a tight budget, there are a couple of recommended discount or thrift stores and outlets that you can go to for your clothing needs. Ask your fellow students around.
Formal clothing will be required only while interviewing for an internship or a job, and during formal presentations or conferences. Don't forget to bring along some traditional clothing for festive and cultural occasions.
