This year, the organization is looking to obtain new members. You do not need to be a Microbiology major, just interested in the field.

We want individuals who are interested in participating in a variety of projects and fundraising activities. We plan on doing some community service projects, fundraising events and group socials.

If you are interested in being in an educational organization that combines fun with academics, then MSO is for you. By joining the MSO, you are able to start building your resume,meet faculty members, and other classmates, learn about career opportunities and internships, and build career connections.

Constitution

Article I. (Name)

The name of this organization shall be Ohio University's Microbiology Student Organization.

Article II. (Objective)

The goals of this organization shall be:

To promote student interest and development in Microbiology.

To provide assistance to students seeking further education in Microbiology. (I.e. internships, co-ops, graduate studies)

To provide educational assistance to those currently enrolled in Microbiology courses.

To develop and maintain a social and intellectual relationship between students and faculty.

To assist students in beginning their professional careers.

Article III. (Membership)

Members of this organization shall consist of any undergraduate student who is interested fulfilling the goals of this organization. 50+1 Ohio University students.

Article IV.(Offices)

Section I. Executive Board

The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice-president(s), Secretary/Treasurer, and a Historian/Social Chair. The executive board shall consist of these officers.

Section II. Selection of Officers

The selection of officers for this organization shall be made during the last full meeting of spring quarter. The officer selection shall be accomplished through an informal nomination and voting procedure. Only members attending the meeting may have the opportunity to run and serve as an officer. The president shall be a member of the previous Executive Board. If no one of the executive broad runs for president then any member of the Microbiology Student Organization may run to be president.

Section III. Term of Office

The term of each office shall be for one year. The term will begin at the end of spring quarter of one academic year and proceed till the end of the following spring quarter.

Section IV. Vacancies

Should at any time an officer's position become vacant during their term of office, their position shall be filled as determined by members at the next full group meeting.

Article V. (Meetings)

Section I. Regular Meetings

Ohio University's Microbiology Student Organization shall meet no less than once a month during the academic year. Notices of each meeting shall be placed in Morton, Clippinger, Bentley, and Irvine Halls no less than one week prior to the meeting. Notifications can in addition be made via e-mail. The Executive Board shall meet each week. Unless there is a group meeting planned during the week.

Section II. Special Meetings

The Executive Board as required, provided that notice of the meeting is posted no less than three days prior to the meeting may call special meetings. E-mail notifications to all members on the mailing list must also be sent no less than three days prior to the meeting. The mailing list will consist of those who attend and sign in at the first meeting of the each quarter. Additional members can be added to the list at any time.

Article VI. (Faculty Advisor)

The faculty advisor shall be a volunteer of the Microbiology department who will except the responsibilities of the position.

Article VII. (Amendments)

Any proposed amendments shall be presented in writing and read at any full group meeting. A copy of the amendment will be given to all those in attendance during the reading. It shall be voted on at the next meeting provided that it is no earlier than two weeks. A two-thirds affirmative vote of the members attending is required for the adoption of a proposed amendment. It is required that there is a minimum of 50% attendance of the members on the e-mail list for the proposed amendment to be read. This attendance is also required during the meeting at which the amendment is voted upon. If the conditions for voting are not met after two meeting following the reading of the amendment then the amendment must be resubmitted and the process repeated.

By-laws

Article I. (Dues)

Dues for Ohio University's Microbiology Student Organization are $10.00 per quarter. These dues are used to provide the members with food and drink during the meetins and to help cover transportation expenses for trips.

Article II. (Duties of Members)

Section I. Duties of Officers

The President shall be the presiding officer during each meeting of the organization, as well as perform those duties normal of the role of President. The Vice-president(s) shall become presiding officer in the absence of the President, in addition to performing those duties delegated by the President. The Secretary shall maintain written records of all group and executive meetings and shall also keep an accurate membership role. The Secretary shall also inform the members of upcoming meetings, what they entail, when, and where. The Treasurer shall keep track of finances. The Historian/Social Chair shall maintain records of graduating students in addition to planning the social events. They will record where the graduates attend graduate school or find employment.

Section II. Duties of Members

To be actively involved in pursuing the goals of the organization by reporting information about graduate school, employment opportunities and internships so that records can be kept for all members.

Article III. (Committees)

Section I. Permanent Committees

The executive board shall form all permanent committees if they find the proposed committee to be beneficial to the organization.

Section II. Ad-hoc Committees

The executive board when found necessary to do so shall also form all ad-hoc committees.

Article IV. (Rules of Order)

Robert's Rules of Order shall govern the Ohio University Microbiology Student Organization.

Article V. (Amendments)

Amendments to the by laws shall be made in the same manner as for the constitution.
