Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. It welcomes all people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join to build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.
The international organization is divided into local affiliate offices. These affiliates work together with the goal of eliminating substandard housing.
Athens County Habitat for Humanity
Athens County Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate office servicing Athens County, Ohio.
The County affiliate manages three subdivisions, called coalitions. These are the Athens Women Raise the Roof, Faith Build, and Ohio University Coalitions.
The Athens Women Raise the Roof (consisting of local women volunteers) and Faith Build (a collection of local churches) coalitions are the most active and successful of the coalitions. The Ohio University Coalition, which includes faculty and students, greatly helps the other two coalitions in their fundraising and building goals.
Ohio University Student Chapter of Habitat for Humanity
The Ohio University Student Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is the student-lead component of the Ohio University Coalition. As a service organization at Ohio University and as a representative of Habitat for Humanity, the student chapter works to involve Ohio University students in community service to reduce poverty. Students of all backgrounds, races and religions are welcome to join in this effort.
