WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR!

Every day, local newspapers run letters to the editor from various OU students of all political affiliations. Letters to the editor are an easy way to promote the Democratic platform, and to note the faults of the Republican Party and their officeholders. When writing a letter, remem ber the following:

- Keep Letters to the Editor short [200-300 words is ideal].
- Use strong language and use “buzzwords” such as “progressive,” “democratic” and “grassroots” to describe democrats or democratic campaigns and “radical,” “unilateral” and “failure to” when describi ng Republicans and their campaigns.
- Keep examples simple and short. Remember, you have a word limit AND an attention span limit.
- Proofread, proofread and proofread. Make sure you sound intelligent but not “elitist.”
- Sign your name and include your status in OUCD.
- CHECK TO MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR FACTS ARE CORRECT.
- E-mail letter to our Communications Director before you send your letter(s).
- E-mail you letter to the newspapers of your choice. Most Dems send their letters to either The Ohio University Post, The Athens News, or the Athens Messenger.

Take action for your party right now! You don’t have to wait until Election Day to make your voice heard.
