Discussion of the History and Purpose of Arnold Air
Society
History of Arnold Air Society
AAS was founded at the University of Cincinnati in 1947. The
program was named after General Henry "Hap" Arnold, and became officially
recognized by the Air Force in 1948. "Arnies" was originally
called the Arnold Society of Air Cadets, but had its name changed to the
current Arnold Air Society in 1950.
John Pershing Robbins Squadron History
In 1950, the John P. Robbins Squadron was founded at Ohio University.
The squadron was named after John Pershing Robbins, Ohio University's first
student killed in WWII. Mr. Robbins was born 27 June 1918.
Arnold Air Society Mission
The Arnold Air Society is a professional, honorary service organization
advocating the support of aerospace power. The "service" aspect is perhaps
the foremost in the mind of many members, because of the society's
continuing contributions to our campuses, our communities, and our corps—but
it should always be remembered that our primary mission is to improve
ourselves as future Air Force officers.
Objectives
First Objective: To create a more efficient relationship
among Air Force officer candidates, in particular, within the Air Force
Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Second Objective: To aid in the development of effective Air
Force Officers.
Third Objective: To further the purpose, traditions, and
concepts of the United States Air Force.
