Blackboard Training

HOW TO SETUP BLACKBOARD (PART 1)

Blackboard is a web-based course content management system that allows instructors to place course materials into a website that can be easily accessed by students who are registered for an Ohio University class. With Blackboard, you can encourage interaction and collaboration among students. This seminar will first explain the use of the Blackboard Self-Service web page, which must be accessed before creating a Blackboard online course. Next, the Blackboard course content system will be used to create a Blackboard course site by adding text, file links, or web links to content areas within Blackboard. We will explore capabilities such as linking one Blackboard content area to another, creating a link from a Blackboard content area to an outside resource, or displaying animated files. Participants will generally work in the role of Instructor to set up a Blackboard course site, but will periodically log out of the Instructor role and log into Blackboard in the Student role in order to see the Blackboard course site as students will see it. This seminar is intended primarily for first-time users of Blackboard.

Prerequisites: OHIO username, password, and typing skills.

Location: Computer Services Center, Room 114.

We are currently not offering any group training on Blackboard. For questions or one on one support, please contact Jeff Shira at shira@ohio.edu.

HOW TO SETUP BLACKBOARD (PART 2)

This seminar continues the examination of the Blackboard course content system begun in Part One. Participants will continue to explore content areas in Blackboard to learn what types of information are appropriate for the different content areas and to discover options available for presenting information in Blackboard. Participants will also create online assessments in Blackboard to learn how to use the Test Canvas to create a mix of test questions using a broad array of question types. Next, you will log into Blackboard as a Student in order to view and complete an online assessment as a student would. Then, you  will log into Blackboard as Instructors again to examine Blackboard’s Online Grade Book. Finally, you will look at appearance options such as shapes and colors for navigation buttons, and learn how to specify which of Blackboard’s content areas will appear initially when a Blackboard course site is opened.

Prerequisites: "How To Setup Blackboard Part 1" seminar.

Location: Computer Services Center, Room 114.
