Mac OS X (10.8) Mountain Lion

Apple released Mac OS Mountain Lion (July 25, 2012) and OIT has arranged a discount on institutional purchases at a lower price than retail. The volume discount will lower each license from $19.99 to $9.99. Departments will have no overhead involved in ordering (i.e. no POs, no p-card, no license management, no waiting for the order to be processed, etc.), and as departments may choose to continue to use the prior Mac OS, this expenditure is optional for departments. Please note that this pricing is only available for University-owned computers. The media cost to install the OS will remain the same as in the past at $10 per media set. Although media sets can be used for multiple computers, Apple requires that a different license be purchased for each device.

See below for information on how to purchase.

How To Acquire:

To order, we need:

  • Customer Name and OHIO ID (email)
  • Department account number
  • Quantity of licenses (one for each machine) - $9.99 each
  • Quantity of media sets required - $10 each
  • E-mail sitelicenses@ohio.edu with questions/orders or use online ordering (below)

OIT is unable to resell institutional licenses to individuals or offer discounts for individual purchases. In addition, Apple will not be offering "boxed copies" of the new operating system. Individuals interested in upgrading to the new version of Mountain Lion, should visit: http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/ for full instructions (and to determine if machine is capable of running Mountain Lion). The upgrade can then be downloaded directly from the Mac App Store for $19.99.

If you are running Lion (10.7.x), you're ready to update to Mountain Lion. If you are running Snow Leopard (10.6.x), update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard before you can install Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
