Comparison Shopping

Cheap laptops are everywhere these days.  You probably can drive to the nearest department store and find a laptop for less than $500.

Before you buy that bargain basement laptop, keep the following points in mind:

  • Laptops offered through OHIO University include a 3 year warranty (1 year on battery). Most bargain laptops have a 90 day warranty.

  • Include state-of-the-art components, including Intel processors, ample RAM, and large hard drives.  Most bargain laptops use older processors like Celerons or non-Intel chips, and skimp on memory and hard drive space.

  • Dell, Lenovo laptops also include 3 years of accidental damage protection (Note:  Accidental damage protection not available for Apple laptops).

  • In the event that you need warranty or accidental damage service, help is available on campus: The OHIO Service Desk is a certified warranty provider for Apple, Dell, HP and Lenovo.  You can drop your computer off at the Technology Depot (Baker University Center 112) for repair services.  There is no need to box-up your computer and ship it to a repair center.
