Data Warehouse Information

A Data Warehouse is designed to allow users to extract, manipulate and query data, providing useful information to those who need it. It is a central data repository. The purpose of a data warehouse is to allow users easy, fast, generic access to their data, in order to create useful information.

Uses of Warehouse Data:

  • Users can create charts, graphs, matrices, reports, summarizations, statistics, comparisons, calculations, and forecasts
  • Programming staff can create pre-formatted reports for users
  • Programming staff can create web applications using the data from a data warehouse

The data warehouse consists of more than 120 tables including Student Demographics, Student Records, Admissions, Student Accounts, Student Financial Aid, Housing, Class, Life Long Learning, Pre-College, Fraternity and Sorority, and legacy Human Resources data.

More than 100 university employees have access to the Data Warehouse. In addition to individual user queries, the data warehouse is being used by many department, college, and Administrative Services websites to enhance student and faculty services. It has become an important university resource that is continually growing to accommodate the needs of the university.

The data warehouse is reloaded nightly, Monday through Friday, and on Sunday mornings. The data is extracted from the SIS backup files which are created as soon as SIS is taken down. Therefore, the data warehouse information is always a day behind the SIS information.

Online Data Warehouse Library:

To use the Data Warehouse Library, go to dwlibrary.admsrv.ohio.edu.  Your oakid must be setup to gain entry.  Most accounts are setup.  If you can't get in, email the Data Warehouse Administrator to request that your account be setup.
