When a virus first appears, there can be a lag of several hours before your copy of McAfee can update itself automatically. To avoid this unprotected period, you can manually update your virus definition files.

Updating DAT files on a Windows System

1. Right click on the McAfee shield icon on your toolbar (near the date and time in the bottom right corner).
   
2. Click 'Update Now'.

Updating DAT files on a Macintosh System

1. Open your Virex folder and double click on the Virex icon.
2. Then click on the 'eUpdate' button.
