Friday, October 25, 2013
Bill Harris

Over the summer, OIT's infrastructure group discovered an issue with Mac OS 10.8 that caused some Apple laptops to randomly drop their connections to OHIO's wireless network. Apple now has identified a workaround for this bug.

Instructions

Workaround for Mac OS 10.8 WiFi bug (printable PDF)

If your Mac laptop randomly drops its OHIO wireless connection, the steps below will fix that problem:

  1. In the top right of your screen, click the magnifying glass and type the word Keychain
  2. Click on Keychain Access
  3. Under Category, choose Certificates (NOT My Certificates)
  4. Double-click securelogin.oit.ohio.edu
  5. Click the triangle next to Trust
  6. Use the drop-down menus to change the following attributes to Always Trust:
    • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    • Extensible Authentication (EAP)
    • X.509 Basic Policy
  7. Close the dialog box and enter your Mac's password to confirm the changes
    • If your Mac has more than one entry for securelogin.oit.ohio.edu, then perform steps 4-7 for each entry
