Renee Perry, one of the event organizers, restocks the buffet line during the Aug 20 benefit for the family of Fred Herner. When Office of Information Technology employee Fred Herner passed away unexpectedly, his colleagues across campus were stunned and saddened. Soon, however, thoughts turned toward his family. "We wanted to do something to help them out," said Renee Perry, IT Acquisitions Manager.

Herner's colleagues came together to host a benefit luncheon. Some contributed food and supplies, while others did the leg work to make the event happen on short notice. In the end, the benefit drew attendees from across the university and raised approximately $2100 for Herner's family.

"The university community came together and showed how wonderful people really are," Perry said. "I spoke with Fred's mother, and she was overwhelmed with the support that Ohio University has shown over the last month. I'm proud to be an Ohio University Bobcat!"

Individuals interested in contributing to the Herner family can contact Perry at 740-593-9651 or perryr1@ohio.edu.
