OHIO's NextGen network upgrade is bringing better network performance to the university faster than expected.
According to OIT's interim director of infrastructure, Rick Manderick, the project is about a month ahead of schedule on the Athens campus. Manderick attributes the rapid progress to several factors, including streamlined installation procedures and good teamwork. "With each building our field crews complete, they get faster," says Manderick. "Plus, we've had great cooperation from end users as we work in their buildings."
Regional campuses also are seeing improvements sooner than expected.
The original project schedule called for the Athens campus to be completed before work would begin on regional campuses. That schedule has since been revised, with Athens and regional upgrades happening at the same time. Work currently is under way on the Chillicothe campus, with Ironton to follow.
