Stephen Kopp, dean of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University, was named provost of Ohio University in December. Kopp, who is known for his inventive ideas and experimental approach to problem solving, begins his assignment July 1. "He has an analytical mind and is a good listener and consensus-builder. I believe his personal style will fit exceptionally well at Ohio University," President Robert Glidden says. Kopp, a strong advocate for reform in higher education, is a supporter of lifelong learning. At Central Michigan, Kopp secured $37.5 million to fund a new health professions building. He also was instrumental in developing a network to give rural residents and health care providers access to consulting services and health information.

He has received the Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award 19 times and was recognized as the 2001 Educator of the Year by the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He succeeds Daniel Marazon, who served as interim dean following the departure of former Dean Barbara Ross-Lee in January 2001.
