The goal of a restructuring of the university's Student Affairs Division is to increase the promotion of intercultural awareness university-wide and provide more efficient service to students, said Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Joel Rudy.
Under the reorganization, Melissa Exum and Mike Sostarich, MFA '71, both associate deans, were promoted to associate vice presidents of the division effective July 1. As associate vice president for student affairs/intercultural affairs, Exum oversees the Office of International Student and Faculty Services, Multicultural Programs, and Counseling and Psychological Services. Exum also will form and chair an Intercultural Affairs Advisory Council to review campus interests on issues of intercultural education.
Sostarich oversees Baker Center, Galbreath Chapel, and the offices of Public Occasions, Health Education and Wellness, Career Services, and Budget and Financial Planning.
Director of Student Activities and Community Service Programs Terry Hogan, BSC '77, MA '83, PHD '92, was promoted to associate dean of students, where he retains responsibility for directing the Center for Community Service, Residence Life and Student Activities. Patricia McSteen, MED '91, was named interim assistant dean of students, and Richard Danals was promoted to director of student activities.
"This represents a more functional organization and gives the university a more visible position and clearer direction with regard to a focus on intercultural affairs," Rudy said.
