Alan Sharp, MSA '91, led Olympic athletes to their medals -- literally. For the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Games, he served as host to 10 medal winners, escorting them to the Olympic Media Plaza after their events.
"One of my favorites was the Norwegian women's silver medalist biathlon relay team," says Sharp, of Atlanta, who also was command center manager for the torch relay. "They just thoroughly enjoyed the day and were a lot of fun to be around."
Other alumni who worked at the Games:
- Jill Schumacher, BSSP '00, MSA '01, of Cincinnati, served as the marketing and communication coordinator for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.
- Cris Pauli, MSA '95, of Philadelphia, was regional manager of parking for the downtown cluster for the Games and the Paralympics.
Before the Games even started, alumni were well represented along the torch relay route. (If you participated and we missed you, please let us know so we can recognize you in a future issue's Bobcat Tracks.)
- Corrine Brown, BBA '71, MBA '73, of Athens carried the torch in Portsmouth, Ohio, Dec. 18. Her sister nominated her for the honor because of her participation in women's sports and dedication to family and friends. Brown is associate vice president for information technology at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, and an adjunct instructor in the Ohio University College of Business.
- Tracy Montgomery Beach, BSED '97, was a torchbearer in Columbus on Jan. 2. Beach's brother nominated her for the courage she displayed after a 1990 car accident that killed two of her friends and left her in a coma.
- Stephanie Dye-Hobson, BSED '93, of Chillicothe, was nominated to carry the torch in Portsmouth, Ohio on Dec. 18 by her husband because of her dedication as a first-grade teacher.
- Jamie Winder Ross, BSJ '98, a reporter for WLIO, an NBC affiliate in Lima, Ohio, represented the station as the torch passed Lima on Jan. 3.
