Guido StempelA caring teacher I'd like you to consider Dr. Guido Stempel (Distinguished Professor of journalism, now emeriti) and his wife. He was my journalism law professor and made the course not only interesting, but he was the first and only professor who showed caring. I took the course fall quarter, and to prepare for the exam, he invited the class to his home for a review. He and his wife were so gracious to all of us. We were welcomed into their home and treated with homemade goodies and cider while he reviewed material for the exam. I don't remember what I got on the exam, but I still remember the warm feeling I had about the experience. The Stempels opened their home and showed that extending the hand of caring has a very overwhelming impact. I've remembered that lesson throughout my career as I have supervised young professionals. A caring and compassionate mentor can help mold the future. Ellen
