Art Marinelli Jr.

He lays down the law

I was a student in Professor Art Marinelli Jr.'s business law class in my junior year. After that I was lucky enough to get a job working for him as a grader during my senior year.

I went on to law school and still use the hardbound edition of Black's Law Dictionary that Art gave me as a present when I graduated from Ohio University. Why bother with a computer when a thick book is so much more personal?

Taped inside the cover page is his note, dated May 15, 1970, wishing me success in my future in the legal profession. While I did not realize it at the time, Art's class was the beginning of learning how to analyze what judicial opinions really meant and why the court decided a case the way it did. Art has made a career out of serving Ohio University and its students. I am not sure which is stronger -- my sense of admiration or envy.
