Stephen Hays, James AndrewsThese Teachers are Classics My favorite professors at Ohio University are Dr. Steve Hays (associate professor of classics) and Professor Jim Andrews of the Classics Department. I took Greek and Latin simultaneously my senior year. During my three quarters of studying Latin and Greek, I learned self-discipline and time management. For me to succeed in these classes, I devoted four to six hours per day to studying each language. Latin and Greek did not come easily to me, as did my other classes, but due to my dedication and Professor Andrews and Dr. Hays, I achieved my goal of speaking, reading and translating Greek and Latin. To this day, when I come across a Greek or Latin phrase on a statue or in a reading, I feel that great sense of accomplishment in being able to read and translate the Greek or Latin into English. I always think back to my senior year and the time and devotion that Dr. Hays and Professor Andrews gave to me. Because of Professor Andrews and Dr. Hays, I now have a love for the classical languages and know that I have the ability to comprehend and appreciate a language other than English. I am planning now, due to my rewarding experiences in the Greek and Latin classes, to encourage my two sons to study Greek and Latin. Thank you once again, Dr. Hays and Professor Andrews, for your support and time during 1988-1989. Jennifer
