Alum revisits campus
Visit with former President memorable

Dear Charlie,
It was very pleasant reading your thoughts and those of Vern Alden, Bob Glidden and Rod McDavis in the new Ohio Today.
Although we shook hands several times over the years, my favorite memory of you goes back to the autumn of 1992 when my class of '67 was celebrating our 25-year reunion. A component of the weekend agenda was a reception you and Claire hosted at the President's Residence. It was the first time my wife Lynne Haley, AB '69, and I had been inside the house, and you made our group feel most welcome.
In addition, I believe I speak for other alums when I say how grateful we are for all your work to strengthen the academics and reputation of our alma mater during your 19 years as president.
You have my continuing very best wishes.
Sincerely,
Mike Johnson

Dear Mike and Lynne:
Thank you for your kind response to the article reporting the interview with Presidents Alden, Glidden, McDavis and myself. It was a good conversation and I think we all enjoyed being together and the exchange of ideas.
Your memory of being in our home for a 25-year reunion gladdens the heart. Claire worked very hard to ensure that everyone felt welcome at 29 Park Place, and I know your kind letter will mean a great deal to her.
We cherish our years at Ohio University and the many wonderful students, faculty and alumni we are privileged to know. I am grateful that you took time to express your appreciation.
With warm best wishes,
Charles J. Ping
