By Amanda Hughes
Ohio University's College of Health and Human Services will host its 25th anniversary celebration May 19-21 with a variety of events for alumni and current students. The event offers an opportunity for networking as well as for the college to honor past and present faculty, staff and students who have helped make it and its six schools pioneering institutions in the field of health and human services.
The theme of the anniversary celebration is "Navigating the Future for 25 Years." The journey will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in Walter Hall with a presentation by Dr. Argye Hillis as part of the second annual Grover Lecture Series. Hillis is a world-renowned neurologist specializing in treatment advances for patients with neurological impairments. Immediately following the lecture, there will be a wine and cheese reception in Grover Center.
On Friday, May 20, the Spring Research and Creative Activity Poster Exposition 2005 will be held in Grover Center at 10 a.m. The School of Hearing, Speech and Language Services, School of Nursing and School of Physical Therapy also will host individual events Friday and Saturday, May 20-21. In addition, campus tours will be offered throughout the weekend.
The College's Career Day for undergraduate and graduate students will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday Grover Center. This event offers alumni and current students an opportunity for networking, and all are encouraged to attend.
Following Career Day, the 25th Anniversary Celebration Dinner will be held at Nelson Commons beginning at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour. Section 8 of the Singing Men of Ohio and the Local Girls, an Athens-based vocal group, will provide entertainment. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. The cost is $15, and registration is required. Register online at https://iliad.cats.ohiou.edu/transactions/chhs-reg.cfm.
To add a local touch to the evening, the dinner tables will feature centerpieces created by Passion Works Studio of Athens. The organization employs local residents with disabilities to paint the colorful metal flowers, which are the "official flower" of Athens, and create other works of art. After dinner, there will be a brief ceremony to present the first College of Health and Human Services Awards of Distinction to alumni and friends.
