SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES ANNOUNCED

9/3/97

ATHENS, Ohio -- President Robert Glidden has announced several organizational changes as the new academic year begins.

* Reflecting a reporting structure used by most other national universities, the Office of Alumni Relations, which has been housed in the University Relations Division, will now report to the Development Division. Vice President for Development Leonard Raley's title will be changed to vice president for alumni relations and development.

*University Relations Vice President Adrie Nab will be asked to give enhanced emphasis to initiatives that produce greater statewide, national and international visibility for Ohio University.

"There are significant efficiencies in having the alumni and development staffs work together, as they do elsewhere in the country," Glidden said. "Leonard Raley comes with a background of substantial experience in alumni relations. And we need Vice President Nab's division to be able to concentrate on more hands-on' public relations, crafting and executing a long-term communications strategy that will raise and enhance the university's public profile."

Associate Vice President for University Relations Hub Burton has been asked to serve as interim director of Alumni Relations during a national search for a new director, and will split his duties between Alumni Relations and University Relations during the transition period. A search will begin immediately, and is projected to be completed early in 1998.

* Ohio University Airport administration will report to Vice President for Finance Richard Siemer, rather than to Vice President for Administration Gary North. Administration of Ohio University stores (Central Receiving) will report to the Administration Division, rather than to the vice president for finance.

"I am trying to balance portfolios a bit," Glidden said. "Dick Siemer is a former pilot, and has significant experience in that area. And as we look forward to economic development of the region, the airport will play an increasingly important role."
