ATHENS, Ohio -- Thomas F. Korvas (KOR vis), former director of the Career Services Center at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, has been named director of Career Services at Ohio University.
Korvas began work Aug. 19 at Career Services, which offers comprehensive services to assist students and alumni with career decision-making and job searches. Services include advising, computerized career guidance programs, workshops, the Alumni Career Resource Network, a Career Resource Library and a World Wide Web homepage.
The office also assists with job searches through a computerized resume referral database service, job and internship vacancy listings, the On-Campus Interview Program and career fairs. Career Services logged more than 34,000 contacts with students and alumni during the 1995-96 academic year.
"I am very excited about coming to Ohio University and joining the Division of Student Affairs," Korvas said. "I look forward to meeting and working with all members of the university community."
Korvas had headed the career services operation at Duquesne since 1988, overseeing an on-campus recruiting process dealing with more than 200 companies and approximately 3,000 student interviews annually. He also initiated a new follow-up procedure to collect employment-related data on Duquesne graduates.
"Tom is going to be an excellent addition to the Office of Career Services, the Division of Student Affairs, and the entire Ohio University community," said Melissa Exum, associate dean of students. "I am very enthusiastic about his appointment. He has a solid background in career services, and brings a wide range of experience to this position."
Korvas served as assistant director of placement services at the University of Toledo from 1978 to 1988. He earned a Ph.D. in higher education, a master's degree in education, and his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Toledo.
Korvas replaces Sally Kearsley, who left the university to take a similar post at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.
