Ohio University's Marching 110 will take its pre-game and half-time shows on the road to Albany and Chillicothe during the weekend of Sept. 14-15.
The marching band will take the field at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Alexander High School on Route 50 in Albany. On Sept. 15, the Marching 110 will perform at 3 p.m. at Chillicothe's Herrnstein Field to celebrate the city's bicentennial and the 50th anniversary of Ohio University's Chillicothe regional campus.
The performances are part of an ongoing outreach program by the University Relations Division at Ohio University.
"It's a win-win situation, combining the most exciting band in the land and a commitment to Southeastern Ohio," said Adrie Nab, vice president for university relations. "Since 1993, we started to explore opportunities to reach out into surrounding communities to support important and worthwhile projects that can make a difference."
At Alexander High School, the evening will kick off with a spaghetti dinner from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria; admission is $5 for all you can eat. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for activities on the football field. In addition to the Marching 110, Alexander High School cheerleaders will perform at 6:15 p.m., and the high school marching band will play at 6:30 p.m. The event concludes with a dance on the football field.
Proceeds will be used to support athletic field facilities at the high school, said event coordinator Jerry Crow. Admission is $3, with further donations accepted. Tickets will go on sale starting Sept. 6 at Alexander High School, Zide's Sports Shop in University Mall, and at the Dairy Queen on Route 50 in Albany.
The Chillicothe event will include performances by Ross County high school bands, mascot entertainment by the Ohio Bobcat and Chief Krazy Horse from the Chillicothe Paints Baseball Club, Ameri-Cheer National Champion Chillicothe High School cheerleaders, and Eastern Open Classic Champion Paint Valley cheerleaders. Proceeds will benefit the Pathfinder Leadership Series in Chillicothe and Ross County high school bands. Co-sponsors are the Chillicothe-Ross Chamber of Commerce and B-94 FM.
Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are on sale at the OUC Student Services Office, Ameristop on Western Avenue, the Brass Picture, Chenault Printing on Bridge Street, Schmieder's Carry Out on High Street and the downtown Chamber office on South Paint Street.
