ATHENS, Ohio -- Former Ohio University Provost James Bruning has been named interim vice president for Regional Higher Education, a division serving Ohio University campuses throughout Southeastern Ohio and students around the world through its Lifelong Learning programs.
In making the announcement, President Robert Glidden said: "I am very pleased and grateful to Jim Bruning for accepting our appointment as interim vice president for Regional Higher Education. Jim's long and broad experience of leadership in the university, his knowledge of the region, and his longstanding commitment to our regional campuses makes him an ideal choice. He will give our regional campuses and Lifelong Learning programs excellent leadership during this interim period."
Bruning's appointment will begin October 1, the date that outgoing Vice President Jim Bryant's retirement is effective, and will continue until a new vice president is selected and in place following a national search headed by Assistant to the President Alan H. Geiger.
"We hope to have the next vice president in place by spring," Geiger said.
Bruning was named provost emeritus when he stepped down in 1992 after 11 years as provost. He has been teaching part-time in the psychology department and served from January 1 to April 30, 1998 as interim director of purchasing in the university's finance department. He began teaching at Ohio University in 1962.
