ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University President Robert Glidden will receive the Edwin Franko Goldman Memorial Citation from the American Bandmasters Association at the Nov. 6 Concert Band and Wind Ensemble concert in recognition of his distinguished service and work in band music.

Glidden, Ohio University's president since July 1994, also is an accomplished musician. He received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in music. He served as dean of the School of Music at Florida State University for 12 years and as dean of the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University for four years. From 1985 to 1988, he was president of the National Association of Schools of Music. Glidden is a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society, for which he served as national president from 1981 to 1985. He also is an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity and Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity.

The Goldman Memorial Citation, which will be presented by Mark Kelly, past president of the American Bandmasters Association and director emeritus of bands of Bowling Green State University, was established to recognize people outside the association's membership who have served the interests of bands and band music. Glidden joins such award recipients as John Philip Sousa III and President Clinton.

The American Bandmasters Association, established in 1929, provides a forum for members of the profession, promotes original concert band works, maintains a research center and publishes a trade journal.
