ATHENS, Ohio -- A planned Nov. 7 dedication of the Kennedy Museum of American Art will be postponed until spring, Vice President for University Relations Adrie Nab said Monday.
Nab said the decision was made in part due to the increasing popularity of a traveling exhibition now on view at the museum, as well as some unexpected scheduling conflicts with some of the major Kennedy Museum supporters and board members.
The traveling exhibition is called "Expedition: American Rivers -- Along the Banks of the Ohio," the works of nine American realist landscape painters.
"Taking that exhibit down at this time to accommodate Kennedy Museum collections would mean canceling a number of educational outreach programs for our schoolchildren," Nab said. "At next spring's dedication, we will have more space to highlight a wider variety of the museum's own collections."
Nab said there were also some scheduling conflicts arising that meant some of the museum's supporters and board members might not have been able to attend the dedication.
Although formal dedication ceremonies will be postponed, the normal hours of the museum will be unaffected. The museum, located in Linn Hall on The Ridges, is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Admission is free.
