ATHENS, Ohio -- John Thorndike, a former resident of Athens County, will read from his 1996 book Another Way Home: A Single Father's Story at 3:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 4) in the Friends of the Library room (room 319) on the third floor of Ohio University's Alden Library.
Much of the book is based on Thorndike's experience in Athens County during the 1970s, when he farmed and sold produce at the Athens Farmers Market while raising his son, Janir.
"This beautifully written and haunting memoir by novelist Thorndike primarily deals with how he raised his son without a partner," wrote a reviewer for Publishers Weekly. "Although this account of Janir's childhood is filled with moments of joy between father and son, Thorndike makes clear that hard work and loneliness are often the lot of a single parent."
Thorndike will be available to sign copies of his book following the reading. His appearance is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries.
