ATHENS, Ohio -- Brian Haynes, a two-time graduate of Ohio University, has returned to the Athens campus as the university's new director of Multicultural Programs.

"I am happy to be back at OU," said Haynes, who earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership with emphasis in college student personnel administration and a master's degree in health and physical education. Haynes said his goals as director include completing an evaluation of current programming offered by the office and developing additional programs that fit the needs of Ohio University students.

Before returning to Ohio University, Haynes had been assistant vice chancellor for student life and director of minority student affairs since 1992 at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., where he was responsible for the development of programs and activities promoting campus diversity. Haynes also served as assistant dean for intercultural advancement at Gettysburg College from 1991 to 1992.

Previous positions he held at Ohio University include coordinator of minority student services and assistant coordinator for the Health Careers Opportunity Program, both in the College of Health and Human Services, and interim assistant director for minority programming in the Office of Student Activities. Haynes also was a graduate associate for leadership development in the Office of Student Activities.

Haynes, who received a bachelor's degree in history from Ohio State University in 1986, is membership chair for the American College Personnel Association's Committee for Multicultural Affairs. He was the recipient of the 1996 Outstanding Community Contribution Award from East Carolina University's Division of Student Life.

Haynes replaces interim director G. Christine Taylor, who has been named assistant vice president for administration. Taylor also is former associate director of residence life.
