ATHENS, Ohio -- Most of Baker Center on the Ohio University campus will be closed part of Thursday (Oct. 24) as first lady Hillary Clinton appears at a campaign rally.
As she did four years ago during a campaign stop, Mrs. Clinton will speak in front of Baker Center during the rally, which begins at 11 a.m.
The first through fourth floors and the basement of Baker Center will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Associate Dean of Students Mike Sostarich. The ground floor, which includes the Front Room campus coffee house, the Corner Cafe and The Post, will remain open, as will offices in the building. Access will be available only at the College Street entrance.
The University Information Line at Baker Center will continue to take calls during that time, Sostarich said.
Street closing information was incomplete as of late Tuesday afternoon, said Ted Jones, director of campus safety.
Officials from the Clinton/Gore campaign suggest those wishing to attend pick up a free ticket at one of six locations in the area.
"Although tickets won't be needed to attend, tickets will be needed for areas with the best viewing," said Steve Graham of the Clinton/Gore advance staff.
Ten thousand tickets will be available on the Ohio University campus at the Baker Center information desk from 8 a.m. to midnight Wednesday; at the front control desk at the Ping Student Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to midnight Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday while tickets last; and at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium ticket office from noon to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
