ATHENS, Ohio --Richard A. Lanham, professor of English emeritus at UCLA, will lecture on "An Alphabet Which Thinks: Illustration of The Electronic Word" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, in 194 Irvine Hall on the Athens campus of Ohio University. The lecture, sponsored by the English Department and the Kennedy Lecture Series, is the John Hollow Memorial Lecture.
Lanham is the author of eleven books on topics such as literary rhetoric in the Renaissance and English composition. His most recent book, which will be the subject of his lecture, is on the impact of computer technology on literacy and humanistic learning.
Lanham is a former director of UCLA's writing program. He is president of Rhetorica Inc, a Los Angeles consulting and editorial services company.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
