Efforts to scale back the size of the City of Athens' Halloween street party in the interest of safety and protection of the Ohio University campus have resulted in several new or revised policies and procedures for the coming weekend.
* Residence hall guests will be limited to one per student and that guest must be pre-registered by 10 p.m. Oct. 26.
* Parking restrictions on Ohio University property are as follows: Beginning 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 through 7 a.m. Sunday Nov.1 any vehicle parked on Ohio University property must display an Ohio University parking permit or have a student registration sticker. No parking permits will be issued for guests or visitors. Any vehicle not displaying a valid permit or student registration sticker or which is parked illegally will be towed at the owner's expense.
* Every year, the majority of Halloween arrests are of people from out of town. Students from other colleges and universities who are arrested will have their arrest records forwarded to their respective offices of student judiciaries. Any Ohio University student arrested during Halloween faces being charged with violations of the University Student Code of Conduct. Substantiated violations may result in a range of disciplinary sanctions up to and including students' disciplinary suspension or expulsion from the university, depending on the gravity of the offense.
* In a related action, the Ohio Highway Patrol will have an increased presence on routes to and from Athens from Friday through Sunday.
